Remember, while there is fun and excitement - there is also the risk of injuries, as well as loss or damage to expensive ski equipment. 

Allianz Comprehensive, Domestic and Multi-trip Travel Insurance plans provide the option to add a Snow Pack for an additional premium.

Our Snow Pack is designed to cover your equipment, piste closure, emergency rescue and more1.

If you are heading to the snow, this pack is designed to provide cover for you to take part in snow sport activities. Refer to the Policy Wording for a definition of ‘Snow Sport Activities’ (Our Definitions) and full details of what the Snow Pack covers. 

You must be under 75 years at the time of issue of your Certificate of Insurance to buy this optional pack. 

Benefits

  • Overseas Emergency Snow Sport Assistance2,3,4,5

We will arrange assistance services if you get injured, sick, or need treatment for a pre-existing condition while participating in snow sports overseas. Provided the relevant injury or sickness is covered by your policy. It includes:

  • Access to a medical advisor for emergency treatment abroad.
  • Medical transfer or evacuation to the nearest hospital overseas or back to New Zealand.
  • Return of your dependants to New Zealand if they are left alone due to your hospitalisation or evacuation.
  • If you die from your injury, sickness, or pre-existing condition during the coverage period, we’ll cover reasonable funeral expenses abroad or the cost of bringing your remains back to New Zealand, up to $60,000.

This benefit also applies if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and suffer losses due to the illness.

We will cover the repair or replacements costs if your equipment is stolen, accidently damaged or lost.

  • Snow Sport Equipment Hire5  

Costs to hire equipment if your own equipment is stolen, accidently damaged, lost or delayed.

  • Snow Sport Pack5  

Cover unused pre-booked and pre-paid ski passes, ski hire, tuition fees or lift passes if you are injured or become sick during your trip.

  • Piste Closure4,5

If you are unable to participate in planned Snow Sport Activities due to the lift systems being closed because of insufficient snow, bad weather, or power failure we will reimburse your expenses.

  • Bad Weather and Avalanches5

We will reimburse you for additional travel and accommodation expenses you incur if your outward or return journey is delayed due to bad weather or an avalanche.

 

Please note: Snow Packs have an additional excess of $500, which cannot be changed or removed. Overseas Medical and Hospital Expenses or Cancellation claims arising from or are in any way connected with you participating in Snow Sport Activities will incur a $500 excess in addition to your chosen base excess.

 

It's important to note that coverage and benefits limits can vary depending on the policy you choose. Therefore, it's important for you to consider the Policy Wording before making any decisions about your travel insurance.

  1. Terms, conditions, limits, sub-limits, and exclusions apply, and these are set out in the Policy Wording.
  2. You do not have cover under this Benefit while travelling in New Zealand.
  3. You will not have cover under Permanent Disability and Personal Liability benefits for any claims arising from your participation in any of the activities listed under Adventure Pack or your participation in snow sport activities, even if you have bought a Snow Pack or an Adventure Pack.

  5. You only have cover for these benefits if the relevant pack has been bought.

Allianz Comprehensive, Domestic and Multi Trip plans do not automatically include cover for activities and losses related to skiing or snow activities as standard. 

To get cover for snow activities you'll need to select the Snow Pack when you first purchase your travel insurance policy. 

Our Snow Pack is an add on product that covers you specifically for the ski or snowboarding element of your trip, and can be added to Comprehensive, Domestic and Multi Trip plans for an additional premium. 

If you are planning a trip to the snow that will involve snow sports, adding a Snow Pack to your travel insurance policy can cover you for things like loss or damage to your equipment, piste closure, emergency rescue and more. 

Our Snow Pack covers amateur skiing, snowboarding, sledding, tobogganing, or tubing conducted on groomed terrain, marked slopes or trails that are open, maintained and monitored within ski resort boundaries.

An Allianz Travel Insurance Snow Pack does not cover you for: 

  • Any form of racing, acrobatics, jumping, stunting, aerial or freestyle activities
  • Competing in a professional capacity
  • Participation in snow sport activities which involve you going off-piste or back-country
  • Any form of bobsleighing, snow rafting, parapenting, ski acrobatics, ski or snowboard jumping, aerial skiing, stunting, freestyle, skijoring, power-assisted skiing or use of mechanised snow-mobiles except as provided by the recognised piste authorities for transport to and from areas designed for recreational skiing

The Snow Pack doesn't provide cover for permanent disability or personal liability claims arising from your participation in snow sports activities.

The Snow Pack doesn't cover you for emergency rescue or medical evacuation within New Zealand.

Our Comprehensive and Multi-trip plans provide cover for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses arising from your participation in snow sport activities only when a Snow Pack has been purchased. An additional $500 excess applies for any of these claims.

Please note: Medical expenses while you are in New Zealand are NOT covered under our Snow Pack.
