Cruise Travel Insurance

Cover for when you're sea and ocean cruising

Allianz Comprehensive, Domestic and Multi-trip Travel Insurance plans provide the option to buy a Cruise Pack to add to your policy.

Our Cruise Pack covers medical expenses onboard, ship to shore evacuations and cabin confinement, as well as if you need to cancel pre-paid shore excursions. Our cruise pack also covers loss and damage to personal items - including formal wear and more1.

Whether you choose to set sail for Europe, island hop through the Pacific, or cruise closer to home. If you're going on a cruise, consider adding a Cruise Pack to your Allianz Travel Insurance policy.

If you are heading on a cruise, this pack is designed to provide cover for you to participate in sea and ocean cruising. Refer to the Policy Wording for a definition of ‘Cruise or Cruising’ (Our Definitions) and full details of what the Cruise Pack covers.

With Allianz Travel Insurance, cruise insurance is an additional add-on to your travel insurance policy. When you go through the purchasing process, you have the option to add a cruise pack for an additional cost. Your premium will be adjusted if you select the Cruise Pack.

When you add a cruise pack to your travel insurance policy you will have medical cover, evacuation cover (ship to shore) as well as other benefits such as pre-paid shore excursion cancellations and damaged or delayed formal cruise wear1

Our travel insurances policies have a general exclusion for cruising, unless you've purchased the Cruise Pack.

Please note, you do not need to purchase a cruise pack if:

  • you are only participating in river cruising; this is automatically covered with your plan; or
  • you are only cruising in New Zealand waters as a passenger on a vessel which does not have on-board accommodation and trained medical staff. For example, a half-day catamaran cruise around the Motukokako/Piercy Island. This is automatically covered with your plan.

For more details and to ensure that you purchase a cover that suits your needs, consider reading the policy wording.

Our Cruise Pack is an additional add on that provides specific cover for cruising. The cost of your travel insurance for your cruise will depend on a number of factors, such as the duration of your cruise (along with the total trip), your age and the destination(s) you are cruising to.

The level of medical attention is related to the seriousness of the ailment. If you succumb to seasickness, you may need to visit the on-board doctor. Or if you suffer an allergic response, come down with a fever or break a limb you may need further treatment off the ship.

There is also the risk of norovirus gastroenteritis outbreaks as well as COVID-19 on cruise ships. Ship doctors are private so the out-of-pocket expenses can be significant.

If you have purchased a cruise pack you may be covered for your medical expenses, cabin confinement and any pre-paid shore excursions that you need to cancel1.
